There is a good story and a lot of heart in each song on Heather's new album, Wild Blue. Truly American roots music, this album encompasses heartache and conquest that reflect the rugged independence of the West. Good times and bad. Triumph always.

    Aunt Marty's Cadillac

    Aunt Marty’s Cadillac

    Chorus:

You should have seen my Aunt Marty back in the Cadillac Days.

She drove a ’65 Caddy, top down, smelled of bourbon and hay.                                                                      She really was the belle of the ball, Waylon and Willie, man she knew ‘em all!

You should have seen my Aunt Marty back in those Cadillac Days.

Well, nobody could resist her, my papa’s little sister

when she’d cruise up and down the drag.  She was footloose and shameless,

glamorous and famous, but I really don’t want to brag.

She was the envy of all in Comanche when they saw her with Lucille Ball,

And you won’t believe your eyes, no lie, she’d go fishing with Robert Duvall.

    Chorus

Comanche was too small, ‘n California was a callin’

So she packed up that Caddy and drove.  She moved in with Roger Miller

In a swanky little villa with the stars out at Lake Tahoe.  You got to love Aunt Marty,

She knew how to party, but it really started taking its toll.

When she finally hit the ground, Mama jumped on a Greyhound

And drove that Caddy straight back home.

    Chorus

Well, now Aunt Mary’s in a rest home.  She don’t get around much. She can barely walk,

but when I see that rusty old Cadillac, I think “Man, if that car could talk…”

    Chorus

    Wild Blue

     Wild Blue

Time is hard when you don’t like where you are.

Loose these shackles from me; I’m gonna go.  I’m gonna go far.

Journey on, journey on little sister, journey on.

If we brave the wind-chill, they won’t find us over that hill.

So, pack up your dignity ‘cause I know that it’s past time for us to leave.

    Chorus

It was strange and new when we made it to the wild blue yonder.

Not gonna let you down this time around in the wild blue yonder.

Our dreams have all come true ‘cause we made it // to the wild blue.

Time is hard when you’re scared if where you are.

The city is no place for.  I gotta go, yeah I gotta go far.

So, pack up your dignity ‘cause I know that it’s past time for us to leave.

    Chorus x 2

It was strange and new when we made it to the wild blue yonder

Not gonna let you down this time around in the wild blue yonder.

Our dreams have all come true ‘cause we made it // to the wild blue.

    Meme's Story

    Meme’s Story

Darlin’ let me tell you a love story about your Papaw and me.

The first time I saw him, oh I knew that he was for me.

It took long enough but then one day, he asked me to be his wife.

    Chorus:

For fifty years through thick and thin we stood side-by-side.

And, it’s not a bed of roses, but when you find it keep it for life.

One day he took me in his arms and said “I’m going away.”

I held him real tight and said “Don’t you leave.  Stay with me please.

‘Cause I don’t want to be in this world without you.”

But in a heartbeat, he was gone.

Now, I stand by his grave and I start to cry.  “God, has he told you about me?”

But, I love that man just as much today.  “Has he even mentioned my name?”

For fifty years through thick and thin we stood side-by-side.

And, it’s not a bed of roses, but when you find it keep it for life.

No, it’s not a bed of roses, but when you find it keep it for life.

    We Love Deep

    We Love Deep

We know loss, and we both know redemption.

We push and pull over our beliefs.

There’s so much more of you that I haven’t seen.

But, right from the start I was your queen.

    Chorus:

    Your touch arrests my fears.

    Your smile erases the years.

    And, we love deep.

Oh, we love deep.  Oooo, we love deep.

I can’t help but love you.  Believe me I’ve tried.

Back in our drinking days when all I did was cry.

But, we sobered up and you proved your love to me.

Now, our life together is what it’s meant to be.

    Chorus x 2

    Crazy Feeling

    Crazy Feeling

Well, I’m livin’ outdoors again; feelin’ cash poor again; sleepin’ in the back of my truck.

My ex-girlfriend says she’s got an extra bed and I can stay for a couple of bucks.

But, she’s a little bit funky, a pill-poppin’ junkie; and I can’t hang with that type.

Y’ see, I got a court order says I got to stay sober, but // she gets drunk every night!

    Chorus:

But, I got a crazy feelin’ everything’s gonna work out fine.

I got a crazy feelin’ everything’s gonna be alright.

She’s got a brother down in Mexico, asked me if I want to go as long as I was willing to drive.

But my license was suspended back when I rear-ended a cop when I was drunk and high.

Y’ know it ain’t no vacation when you’re on probation, & you can’t even cross the state line.

I got a court date on the fifth, it’ll be a tight fit but I // bet I’ll make it back on time!

    Chorus

The judge was disappointed ‘cause I missed my appointment,

So he sent me back to do some more time.  I got incarceration for a court violation,

But I still don’t know what was my crime.  I’m a hopeless optimistic, but let’s be realistic

Why does this always happen to me?  But, I met a guy in the cell block

Says he’s got a sure-shot of // making money when we are free!

    Chorus x 2

    Shaken Me

     Shaken Me

There she was in the room with me.

In all her beauty she ran to me,

    Then all at once

    I could not see.

    Joy tears in my eyes.

In my eyes and blinded me.

    Those tears did not stop.

    They consumed me.

Reduced to the floor and shaken me.

    Joy tears in my eyes.

In my eyes and blinded me.

    Those tears did not stop.

    They consumed me.

Reduced to the floor and shaken me.

Reduced to the floor and shaken me.

    A Diamond for You

    A Diamond for You

If I should find a diamond in the sand

I would shine that diamond so bright and give it to you.

To take away all your pain and confusion and that grip around your soul.

Let it go, let it go, sweet Mama, just let it go.

If I should find a Dooney with a duck and a pocket outside,

All those tears and fears would roll right off of your back.

And, you’d stand up straight and smiling because love never fails.

Then you will know, you will know, sweet Mama, then you will know.

    Chorus:

Mama, sweet Mama, I love you.  Don’t you know you’ve come so far?

Mama, sweet Mama, I need you.  Don’t you quit following that star.

‘Cause you will find who you are.  Yes, you will find who you are.

When joy finally comes your way, and the bad times disappear,

We’ll all hold hands and float down the river.

Then we’ll get things back on track, and this house will be a home.

The wind will blow it will blow, sweet Mama, and the hard times will go.

    Chorus

    Misery Is Over

    The Misery is Over

With sadness in my heart I packed my things and left the place I love

To do what I thought was best, I threw in the towel when push came to shove.

He wanted so much more from me than I could give, and we called it love.

So, I had to put on a good show, but it never was enough.

    Chorus:

But, the misery is over now.  How can it be I stayed so long?

Pretending he was the one who moved me like a love song?

Now I’m back in town, and I will not be kept down,

‘Cause the misery is over now.

With quiet oppression he held me down ‘til I could not breathe.

All the while proclaiming that he was the one who had set me free.

“Free from what?”  I wanted to ask, but I held me peace.

Through the bars I watched as my life slowly slipped away from me.

    Chorus x 2

NOTES
There is a song for everyone on this album, from the rockabilly tune "Aunt Marty's Cadillac" to the endearing love song "We Love Deep". The title track "Wild Blue" and "Misery is Over" are triumphant songs about surviving very hard years and escaping to a better life. Lose yourself in two deeply felt waltzes, "Meme's Story" (co-written by Lingle's 87-year-old grandmother) and "A Diamond for You" written by Heather for her mother after she barely survived the swine flu following weeks on life support. But, the tears don't come without laughter! "Crazy Feeling" written by Heather's husband, John Emeigh, is a hilarious take on a modern-day outlaw tune. Finally, for those who enjoy a somber Celtic-esque number, be sure to escape to a dark room for "Shaken Me". The upright double bass, played by Heather's step-dad, will draw chills up your spine.
Dig in and turn it up! And, if you are so inclined, please write a review!
